Benefits of Visana Outpatient Supplemental Insurance

Visana offers an outpatient supplemental insurance that covers costs for treatments not covered by basic insurance. For example, the supplemental insurance contributes to:

  • Medically prescribed medications approved by Swissmedic, listed on Visana's medication list
  • Dental surgical procedures
  • Medically prescribed aids like glasses and contact lenses, up to 250 Swiss Francs per year
  • Home help and home nursing care
  • Vaccinations for protection and travel
  • Transport and travel costs such as medically necessary ambulance transports

Included in the package is also the Vacanza travel insurance. Customers can choose from three different coverage levels to tailor their insurance protection. Families enrolling their children in this supplemental insurance receive a 50 percent discount from the second child onwards.

Complementary Supplemental Insurance for Alternative Medicine

Visana offers a supplemental insurance for complementary medicine, covering more than 50 alternative treatment methods and the associated medications. Customers can choose from three different coverage levels that vary in the amount reimbursed. This insurance reimburses 90 percent of the costs for treatments up to an annual cap of 1'000, 4'000, or 10'000 Swiss Francs, depending on the selected coverage level.

In the first two levels, only treatments performed by a therapist recognized by Visana are reimbursed, while in the highest level, 50 percent of the costs for treatments by non-recognized therapists are also covered.

Visana Hospital Supplemental Insurances

Visana's hospital supplemental insurance allows you the freedom to choose any hospital in Switzerland. The "General Hospital" offer includes accommodation in a multi-bed room and covers services like the Vacanza travel insurance, rooming-in, and spa and convalescence cures.

For more privacy and comfort, the "Semi-Private Hospital" supplemental insurance offers a stay in a two-bed room on the semi-private ward with free choice of doctor and also includes a childbirth allowance for outpatient births. The "Private Hospital" option promises the highest comfort with accommodation in a single room on the private ward. With the flexible "Hospital Flex Plus" option, you can choose the room comfort upon hospital admission, with the option of semi-private or private accommodation and chief physician treatment, bearing a personal share of the costs.

Additionally, Visana offers a hospital daily allowance insurance that protects you from financial losses due to loss of earnings during a hospital stay.
